Land Purchase and Protection Campaign

The perpetual consolidation of the protected area in aspects of protection and conservation depends on the borders and edges of the BEN, ideally established with neighbors that share objectives (private as well as governmental), or with the natural limits that make protection and rehabilitation possible (mainly rivers, roads, or very obvious landmarks). The Children’s Eternal Rainforest, due to the fact that it has been created and supported by thousands of people from more than 44 countries all over the world, has not been able to boast ideal boundaries. Because of this, there remain properties inside of the protected area as well as along its perimeter that should be purchased. These land purchases will make it possible to close off access to people who tend to destroy the natural resources within the forest (i.e. hunters, trespassers, and illegal plant and animal extractors), as well as make possible the rehabilitation of degraded areas and the construction and consolidation of biological corridors.

The purchase of these properties should be done soon because their owners expect an increase in the values of their properties day by day, even though the land will be dedicated to conservation. In addition, these areas contain many plant and animal species that require this habitat to secure their existence in the future.

In view of all this, the cost of one hectare of land in order to eventually include it in the Land Purchase and Protection Campaign is on average US$7,500.00. In other words, one square meter of land is worth US$0.75. It is important to mention that these prices represent the average of the actual market value, even though the highest amount the MCL has paid to a land seller is US$1,250.00 per hectare.
