Special Hikes

We invite you to walk through the heart of the Children's Eternal Rainforest, spanning more than 22 000 hectares of various forest types with wide biodiversity of flora and fauna, a natural paradise where few have trodden before due to its difficult access.

There are two Special Hikes:

  1. One-day Special Hike: This walk takes place from the San Gerardo station to el Castillo / Rancho Margot and takes 8 hours.

  2. 2. Two+ day Special Hike: Day one, walk four hours from the Monteverde Reserve to spend the night at Eladio's Refuge. Second day, walk from Eladio's to Pocosol station (8 hours walk).

Special conditions must be considered:

  • All groups of visitors are escorted by two rangers who have trained in first aid and rescue and have special equipment and radios. They also have extensive experience as rangers in The Reserve and know the area very well. The cost of this service is $70 daily per ranger.
  • Special Hikes are done only in the summer, which is from the beginning of February until late May. Reservations are subject to change depending on the current weather conditions.
  • We recommend that hikers have good enough physical condition to allow them to hike up to 8 hours per day and cross rivers.
  • It is not permitted to collect of any type of plant, animal, seed or anything else within the Children's Eternal Forest.
  • The consumption of alcohol, use of cigarettes or any other illegal substances is strictly prohibited within the Children's Eternal Forest.
  •  Rangers of the Children's Eternal Forest are the only ones who can guide special hikes.
  • Visitors must bring their own food, backpacks and sleeping bags, and it is recommended you carry the essentials.

The proceeds from these hikes are allocated to our Protection and Monitoring Program.
